Troup High School makes a dominant statement in round one of the Region 3A football playoffs.

The Troup Tigers punched their ticket to the second round of the playoffs Friday night with an impressive 45–14 victory over the Westover Patriots.
From the opening whistle, Troup took full control. Kicker McCarty Harrelson set the tone early with a 38-yard field goal. Moments later, Blaize Bell hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Garrison Edwards for the first touchdown of the night. With under a minute left in the opening quarter, Trent Hodo powered in a 3-yard rushing score, giving the Tigers a 17–0 lead heading into the second.
Troup kept their foot on the gas. With single digits remaining in the half, Edwards connected with Parker Townsend for a 16-yard touchdown, sending the Tigers into the locker room up 24–0.
Edwards continued his dominant performance in the third quarter. He opened the half with a 49-yard touchdown strike to Javarris Warner, then found Davis Moncus for a 10-yard score shortly after. KJ McQueen added a defensive spark with an interception, and before the quarter ended, Edwards hit Moncus again; this time for a 35-yard touchdown to stretch the lead even further.
In all, Edwards finished the night with five total touchdowns and carried the Tigers’ offense with 21 rushing attempts.
The receiving corps shined alongside him. Moncus and Bell each recorded 100 receiving yards, while Warner added 77. Altogether, the Tigers compiled 518 all-purpose yards and 472 total yards, overwhelming the Patriots in every phase.
Westover managed two fourth-quarter touchdowns, a 12-yard pass and a late 10-yard score with a successful two-point conversion, but it wasn’t nearly enough to slow Troup’s momentum.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Tigers walked off with a commanding 45–14 win and a spot in the second round, where they will take on Cairo this Friday.
