Troup High School Football Season Recap

The Troup County Tigers closed out their 2025 football season with an impressive 10–2 record, a campaign driven by experienced starters, explosive playmakers, and a defense that consistently set the tone. Though the Tigers’ postseason ended in a narrow 28–20 loss to Cairo, the year stands as one of the most complete and competitive seasons the program has produced in recent memory.
Leading the offense was senior quarterback Garrison Edwards, whose dual-threat playmaking defined the Tigers’ identity. Edwards, supported by standout running back Javarris Warner, gave Troup one of the most reliable backfields in the region. The receiving corps was anchored by #7 Davis Moncus and #3 Blaize Bell, a pair who created matchup problems throughout the year. Moncus, in particular, became one of Troup’s biggest momentum-setters, scoring the first touchdown in the majority of the Tigers’ games, often igniting early scoring drives.
Additional production came from senior receiver Desmon Cunningham, while a seasoned offensive line provided both protection and push, helping Troup maintain its run-first, physical style of play.
On defense, Troup relied on a strong and experienced group of starters. Linebackers Skylen Straughn, Jeremiah Culpepper, and Trent Hodo anchored the middle of the field, combining high tackle totals with consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks. In the secondary, KJ McQueen emerged as one of the most reliable defenders on the roster, leading the team in key coverage moments and helping secure multiple turnovers. Warner also contributed defensively to crucial situations, giving the Tigers valuable speed in the back end. A tough, rotating defensive front rounded out a unit that repeatedly helped Troup control the pace of games.
The Tigers’ early-season success included dominant wins such as a 44–0 shutout of Fayette County and a convincing performance against Spalding, and a win against the rival Grangers, all showcasing the balance between Troup’s offensive explosiveness and defensive discipline. Their lone regular-season setback came in the region championship game against Sandy Creek, where turnovers proved costly. Still, the Tigers rebounded quickly and entered the postseason with confidence.
In the state playoffs, Troup battled until the final whistle. Their season came to a close in a tight matchup against Cairo, where a late third-quarter touchdown ultimately made the difference. The Tigers’ effort reflected the same fight, toughness, and consistency that carried them throughout the year.
With a core of proven starters, major contributions from Moncus, Bell, Edwards, Warner, Straughn, Culpepper, Hodo, and McQueen, and a culture rooted in discipline and physical play, Troup County leaves this season with pride and a strong foundation for the years ahead. The 2025 Tigers didn’t just compete; they contended, cementing their place among the state’s toughest programs.
